In the mix: Urban Outfitters featuring my portraits

Woop Woop, this is the sound of the police. Ah no, this was the concert I've been to on Friday. KRS One was in the house and showed us what old school hip hop was.. woop woop!

On Saturday I've been to Antwerp and visited the Urban Outfitters shop. This American retailer with a boutique approach loves using their space for expositions. A while ago they shout out they were looking for photographs and guess what.. yes starting from tomorrow I can show some of my portraits on the second floor.. woop woop!

To all you fashion chickens and shopaholics, enter the empire of unique vintage, hip or indie clothing and visit the second floor of the Urban Outfitters shop on the Meir in Antwerp during the coming weeks!!

Foodspotting: Funky Soul Potato

Always nice to find some awesome food hotspots! On the Zuid ("South"), Antwerp's fashionable neighbourhood, you can find the Funky Soul Potato. As its name suggets, this restaurant is serving.. indeed.. potatoes.  The menu already makes your mouth water.  The jacket potatoes dance on your plate under the aliases such as 'Boogie Wonderlamb' 'Green onions' and 'Mustang Sally'.  I chose the 'Funky fish', the potato with smoked salmon, spinach and some delicious creamy dill sauce. Mmmm njammie, but a calorie bomb for sure.  You won't leave hungry!

Mad-ville

A few weeks ago I went for a shoot to Doel. This target for demolition, is an abandoned village near Antwerp. All sorts of artists seem to like this kind of ghost town and you can find some nice graffiti on the houses...

Everything but the circus

(Antwerp, November 2009)

cir·cus (sûrks)

1.
a. A public entertainment consisting typically of a variety of performances by acrobats, clowns, and trained animals.
b. A traveling company that performs such entertainments.
c. A circular arena, surrounded by tiers of seats and often covered by a tent, in which such shows are performed.
2. A roofless oval enclosure surrounded by tiers of seats that was used in antiquity for public spectacles.
3. Chiefly British An open circular place where several streets intersect.
4. Informal Something suggestive of a circus, as in frenetic activity or noisy disorder: "The city is a circus of the senses" (William H. Gass).

[Middle English, round arena, from Latin, circus, circle; see circle.]

circus·y adj.
Word History: The modern circus owes its name, but fortunately not its regular program of events, to the amusements of ancient times. The Latin word circus, which comes from the Greek word kirkos, "circle, ring," referred to a circular or oval area enclosed by rows of seats for spectators. In the center ring, so to speak, was held a variety of events, including chariot races and gladiatorial combats, spectacles in which bloodshed and brutality were not uncommon. The first use of circus recorded in English, in a work by Chaucer written around 1380, probably refers to the Circus Maximus in Rome. Our modern circus, which dates to the end of the 18th century, was originally an equestrian spectacle as well, but the trick riders were soon joined in the ring by such performers as ropedancers, acrobats, and jugglers. Even though the circular shape of the arena and the equestrian nature of some of the performances are carried over from its Roman namesake, the modern circus has little connection with its brutal namesake of long ago.
