Malaysia

My first time Asia... and definitely not my last time.
D & me spent 2,5 weeks in the amazing scenery of Malaysia.

Our itinerary:

• Kuala Lumpur: city tripping and a visit to the KL Tower
• night train to Langkawi (an island near the border of Thailand)
• 3 nights at the amazing island of Langkawi, we went snorkelling, rent a scooter, went swimming in waterfalls, ...
• a day on the island Penang: visited a night market and some temples
• night bus to the North East side of the island where we took the boat to the Perhentians islands
• Perhentian Islands = paradise!!!
• Tama Negara: canopy walk and jungle tracks

I took my Yashica with me and my digital slr (Nikon d50) but I noticed that the lens of my Nikon had a little break down... after 3 years I have to say RIP kit lens 18-55mm, so I had to edit my digital pictures in photoshop to have some nice color and some sharpness...

Girls and ice creams.. Korenmarkt Gent is the place to be... But not for me. As from tomorrow I'm starting my holidays in Malaysia for 2,5 weeks.

Mr. Scruff

I love the Ninja Tune family, but especially Mr Scruff!
My list with seen Ninja Tune artists:

And yesterday I could extend my list with the eclectic dj and artist. The day after the the good Mulatu concert I am back at the Minnemeers. Sold out .. again.

After a little visit to the expo room on the first floor it was time for Mr Scruff to put all his Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, Jazz, Reggae, Latin, African, Ska, Disco, House and Funk records in the blender and serves us some delicious menu for the ears.

I connected my ears with my leggs and danced all night. Maybe I was a little bit dissapointed in the crowd, that only went wild with the famous tracks.

As Mr Scruff's video's are always a nice piece of artwork I expected a little bit more visuals. But anyhow, I enjoyed this performance as well.

Good job of the Democrazy crew, again! The last year they are bringing a refreshing line-up in Gent! Thanks for that!

Mulatu Astatke and The Heliocentrics in concert

26.03.09 Mulatu Astatke @ Minnemeers, Gent:

Mulatu I-can-barely-pronounce-it Astatke is besides Fela Kuti the biggest African jazz pioneer. His music is a fusion of Ethiopian jazz combined with tropical funk. His Ethio-jazz business has been going for already 45 years, but 4 years ago he got really known through his soundtrack in Jim Jarmusch’s ‘Broken Flowers’.



His funky company aka the Heliocentrics gives a perfect final touch to Mulatu's performance. They bring modern beats, some retro funk and jazzy sounds.


Together with an enthusiastic audience I enjoyed this concert!
