Mind the gap

LONDON:

Friday the 15th
Mind the gap please.. and I did. I spent the weekend in London. In two and a half hours the Eurostar brought me from Brussels to the St Pancras station. The hostel that I booked was like on 10 minutes walking distance. It called the Generator and it was really a good hostel.

I dropped my luggage in the room and walked to Covent Garden. On my way I stopped to eat a little snack. It is not really easy to find something healthy for dinner! The menu is alway offering fried or toasted or fat food... big city life I guess... And London ofcourse also famous to charge his service.. I had a nice eveningwalk in Covent Garden and went back to the hostel for a drink in the bar and met some nice people.

Saturday the 16th
Really looked forward to this Saturday, because I planned to meet up with Kath. A British miss that I've met last year on my trip on Fraser Island in Australia. I first walked to the subburb Clerkenwell. Nice to see some small streets, cosy houses, .. this is the neighbourhood where Charles Dickens was born.
Clerkenwell:
At lunch time I've meet up with Kath outside the Tate Modern. I didn't found an underground station nearby so I took a double decker buss and acted like a real tourist by sitting upstairs in front of the window. It's really amazing how the public transport in London is organised!!

Lady on the public transport:
Sitting on a bench between the Tate modern and the Thames I saw Kath appearing. So nice to see her back! We went for a dinner and walked on the Thames Path, went to Spitafield markets, city centre,.. in the evening we went for dinner and a drink in Clapham, which is in the South of London. Not really a touristy area, it was the subburb where she stayed at a friends place. Funny to see how the going out spirit is here the same as in Australia. Girls over dressed up, a little bit cheap and the guys, looking all the same...

Sunday the 17th:
In my hostel room there were 2 girls from Canada who asked me if I wanted to join them on the Jack the Ripper Tour. But I kindly rejected this offer... Went to Camden, the famous street markets. Took a picture of a guy of a jewelery market booth, but he got really pissed and told me first to ask if I wanna take pictures of him. He was actually correct but I was surprissed of the way he got angry for this.

At 1pm I went to Covent Garden to meet up with Kath again. Covent garden is really a happy place. We saw a friend of Kath overthere as well. I left early, because I wanted to go to the docklands. But my plans got mixed up a bit. The DLR, a kind of train, didn't work propper and the line I needed wasn't working that day. I went with the rail service bus, but it took like ages to get there. I walked around at Canary Wharf and it's architectural area. I'd love to go to Greenwich as well, but I ran out of time and it start to get really windy and cold. The bus back got stuck in a traffic jam, but actually I liked it. I had a little bit of sight seeing of the real touristy stuff of London (London Bridge/ Tower Bridge / Westminster Abey/..)

I Took an evening dinner in the hostel and had a nice chat with a Swedish girl. We had a few drinks in the bar and then I went to sleep.

Monday the 18th:
At 4pm I had to be in St. Pancras station to take the train back. The morning and lunch I have spend in the Tate Modern museum. And I still could use more time in there. This is really a must see in London!!!
